BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The B-Sens were unable to solve netminder Jean-Sebastien Aubin as they dropped tonight’s contest to the visiting Philadelphia Phantoms 4-1 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Left-winger Denis Hamel picked up the Sens only goal of the night when he beat Aubin halfway through the first frame. After Peter Regin won an offensive zone faceoff, he drew the puck back to Mattias Karlsson at the near point who fired a shot on net. Kicking the puck out with his right pad, Aubin then fell back on the ice and was defenseless as Hamel scooped up the rebound and backhanded it home. With that goal Hamel (2+1) extended his point streak to three games while Karlsson (0+8) tied the league’s current top assist streak at six games with the helper.

The Phantoms answered back three minutes later when Nate Raduns fired a puck on net while Matt Clackson went hard to the net. After Martin Gerber made the initial stop, Clackson’s momentum forced the puck over the goal line to knot the score at one apiece.

Philadelphia went ahead early in the second frame when Boyd Kane tapped home a feed from Raduns. After negating an icing call, Raduns swooped around the back of the net and found Kane for the easy tip-in. The Phantoms picked up another goal midway through the second stanza while the B-Sens were on the power play. Jonathan Matsumoto picked up a loose puck on the Philadelphia blue line and scored on a clean breakaway to up the Phantom lead to two.

After a defensive battle for most of the third period, Philadelphia struck for one more goal to finish off the scoring. David Laliberte picked up the puck off a missed shot and buried the empty-netter to secure the Phantom victory. The B-Sens top-ranked power play was 0/6 on the night. Netminder Martin Gerber made 24 saves in the losing effort.

The B-Sens (28-18-5-3, 64 pts.) return to home ice on Wednesday night to host the Norfolk Admirals (20-25-2-5, 47 pts.) for the first of eight divisional games this season.
