It has nearly been a full week that Doug Marrone has been in charge at Syracuse. His hiring last week came as a surprise to some, but most agree that he fits exactly what the Orange football program needs. And no one knows that better than his former teammates.
One of those is Jamie Kimmel. The former SV star and Harpursville resident is 6th on SU's all time sacks list and played with Marrone at Syracuse in the 1980's. And the Kimmel connection runs deeper.
Jamie's son Jared now plays 'FOR' Marrone.
Jamie says he always knew Marrone would be a great coach, although it's a little bittersweet that he's in charge for the new generation of Kimmels in Orange. Jamie Kimmel says, " You don't think you're getting older, you still think the same way, and feel the same way. But you see your son on the football field being coached by a guy you were playing with , it brings it around full circle and how quickly time does pass." As a sophomore this past season Jared started 10 games and made 31 tackles, including one sack. That puts him 19 and a half behind his dad on the all time list.
