They may have lost, but it was a triumphant return to campus this afternoon.
The team won a game for the first time, eliminating a George Mason team that won 43 games this year.
And more than anything, the experience of being in the tournament was one they won't soon forget.
Senior Greg Lane says, " It was so exciting when the bus pulled up the first thing we saw was a bunch of tents in the parking lot. Fans were tailgating and you could see people were pointing and yelling at our bus we pulled up. That's exactly what we work for to get that atmosphere and to get a taste of what it's like."
Vestal grad Corey Taylor agrees.
" Here we are used to playing in front of maybe 40 or 50 people. Down there that was 3 to 5000. It was an exciting opportunity in the field was great we've never played on a field that nice before. We just try to take it all in and enjoy the experience. You never know when or if we're going to go back. Hopefully our goal is to go back every year."
Another player thrilled with the trip was pitcher Jeff Dennis.
He earned the win on the mound against George Mason. He was drafted by the Oakland A's after last year but elected to return, and says that trip made it worth while.
Dennis is one of 5 seniors that graduate this season.
