Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - Jeff Foote scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Cornell to a 74-60 win over a pesky Brown team on Saturday night at Newman Arena.
The Big Red secured it’s eighth straight win and remained in first place in the league with an unblemished 6-0 mark while improving to 20-3 overall.
The victory secured the Big Red’s third straight 20-win season and fourth in school history.
The Bears fell to 7-16, 1-5 in the league.
Brown hung right with Cornell throughout the first half and took its largest lead at 24-16 with 10:06 left in the first stanza on a layup by Tucker Halpern, who finished with 14 points and a pair of assists.
The game went back-and-forth the rest of the first half before Cornell closed the opening 20 minutes with an 8-0 run to turn a five-point deficit into a three-point lead at intermission, 39-36.
The Bears shared the basketball well behind an effective halfcourt offense, as they tallied 11 assists on 24 baskets.
Matt Mullery led Brown with 21 points and five assists while also pulling down six rebounds.
In the second half, Brown took its’ final lead at 45-44 before Cornell asserted itself with a 7-0 surge for a 51-45 lead with 13:08 left.
The Bears would pull to within two at 58-56 with 7:37 left to play, but would get no closer.
Consecutive baskets by Louis Dale, a jumper and a layup, combined with a 3-pointer by Ryan Wittman, his only one of the game, put the Big Red in control with a 65-56 lead at the 6:19 mark.
Wittman and Dale each finished with 14 points while Chris Wroblewski added 10 points.
Cornell returns to action on Feb. 12 with a 7 p.m. game at Penn.
