Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
When most coaches take over a program, they're main task is to rebuild a losing program.
But that's not the case for the new basketball boss at Cornell.
Bill Courtney was officially introduced this afternoon as the Big Red's basketball coach.
Courtney comes to Ithaca from Virginia Tech, where he spent one year as an assistant.
He's most known for his eight years at George Mason where he's credited with helping to build the 2006 Final Four team.
Now he inherits a Big Red squad fresh off an appearance in the Sweet 16 and three straight Ivy League crowns.
His number one job will be to re-load a program that loses eight seniors including three of the best players in school history.
Courtney says, "It's a daunting challenge but it's not one I'll back down from or my staff or the players. If you ask the players, to a man, they think they're going to repeat as Ivy League champions. They don't see a reason why they can't do that and I'm certainly not going to be the one to put any limits on what we can accomplish."
Courtney also says he sent a text message to former coach Steve Donahue as soon as he was hired and hopes to pick his brain as soon as possible.
We'll hear more from Courtney, plus talk to one of his new players tonight in Action Sports at 11:00.
