Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - He spent more than four hours last night waiting and waiting and waiting for his phone to ring.
And he never got the call he wanted.
Former Union-Endicott and SU star Art Jones was projected to be as high as a third-round pick.
Instead, he spent the night with his family in Endicott watching as 67 other players heard their names called.
The wait finally ended early this afternoon when the Baltimore Ravens made Jones the 26th pick of the fifth round.
Jones was the 157th player taken overall.
He becomes the first Broome County native to be drafted since 2000 when fellow U-E alum Isaiah Kacyvenski went in the fourth round to Seattle.
Jones says he met with the Ravens coaching staff at the Draft Combine back in February and clicked with them immediately.
He joins a Ravens defense stacked with All-Pros.
And good luck trying to wipe the smile off his face.
"I had to change my text message ton cause it kept blowing up, but when I got that call I couldn't even talk," says Art. "I was shaking and everything. It's a dream come true. You know I feel like they got a steal in the draft, I feel like I should have been taken a lot earlier"
"I'm not very football literate, but Ravens was a name I recognized so I was excited," says Art's mother, Camille. " I was like wow they must be a good team because I know that name!"
Jones joins his former captain and good friend Jameel McClain with the Ravens.
Another former Orangeman Adam Terry is an offensive lineman in Baltimore.
