Binghamton University honored its student-athletes at the 64th Annual Varsity Awards Program Thursday night at the Events Center. Nearly 500 students, staff, families and supporters were on hand as the department unveiled its 2010-11 award winners.
Together with a Senior Recognition Ceremony held prior, the evening featured four student speakers and the annual highlight video as well as a special 10-year Division I anniversary film.
"Even though the sun didn't shine much in Binghamton this year ... our department certainly did," interim director of athletics Jim Norris said in his opening remarks.
The major winners included Athletes of the Year Erik van Ingen (cross country/track) and Jessica Phillips (softball) and Anna Edelman (tennis) on the women's side. Other seniors earning recognition for their career achievements were men's tennis player Sven Vloedgraven, golfer Jake Katz, baseball player Corey Taylor, cross country/track runner Chris Gaube, softball player Deannie Plemon, swimmer Amanda Ciccone and volleyball player Michelle McDonough.
