Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Senior right fielder Peter Bregartner belted two home runs and drove in five to pace Binghamton baseball to an 8-2 win over visiting UMBC Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Bearcats won for the 16th time in their last 21 games to even their overall record and maintain their hold on second place in the America East standings.
Bregartner drilled a two-run shot over the fence in right field in the second inning to put BU ahead 2-0.
He then highlighted a four-run third inning with a sky-high two-out, three-run home run to right. Earlier in the inning, junior first baseman Dave Ciocchi ripped an RBI single to right.
Ahead 6-0, Binghamton added two unearned runs in the fourth before the Retrievers got on the board with two unearned runs in the sixth.
Sophomore Jay Lynch scattered eight hits in seven innings and didn't allow an earned run.
Lynch struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
Second-place Binghamton welcomes league-leading Stony Brook to Varsity Field for a crucial three-game set Friday and Saturday.
Friday's opening game begins at 3:30 p.m.
