Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) There may be snow on the ground, but the spring sports season is right around the corner.

The Binghamton University women's softball team heads to Florida later this week to start it's season.

The softball team has some high expectations, coming off a season where it went to it's first ever conference tournament.

They return 5 starters, including Co-America East Player of the Year Jessica Phillips.

And they return all 4 of their pitchers.

The Bearcats have been picked to finish 3rd in the conference again this year.

"I think our expectations are that we win our conference and I think we are prepared and are in a good spot to do that and I think that's always the goal. We're really looking to win our conference championship," says head coach Michelle Burrell.

"I think this team is heading toward another successful year. We have all of our players back and this year, all of our freshmen have moved to sophomores. They know what to expect, they're going to feel more comfortable on the field and they're ready to excel," says senior Briana Andrews.

The Bearcats play their first 21 games on the road to start the season.

Their first home game comes March 27th when they host Siena in a
double header.
