Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Senior forward Viive Rebane finished with a game-high 16 points and senior guard Orla O’Reilly added 15 points, leading Binghamton (11-12, 5-5 AE) to a 55-46 win over Stony Brook (4-19, 1-9 AE) in an America East women’s basketball game on Wednesday night at the Events Center. The win, which was regionally televised by Time Warner Sports, broke the Bearcats’ two-game losing skid.
O’Reilly had 11 of her points in the first half as the Bearcats went up 26-33 at the break. In the second half, Rebane scored 12 of her points to give the Bearcats the eventual separation they’d need to preserve the win.
“We are happy with the win tonight on our home court,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “I thought we did a better job in the second half with our defense and rebounding.”
Up 37-35 with 8:59 left in regulation, Binghamton went on a 13-5 run in a span of 5:25 to go up 50-40 with 3:34 left in regulation. Rebane had six of her points during that stretch. In the final 1:49 of regulation, the Bearcats locked up the win by going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Rebane also added a team-best nine rebounds and is averaging 10.0 rebounds in the past three games. O’Reilly, meanwhile, added three assists and three steals.
Sam Landers led Stony Brook with 13 points while Whitney Davis added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Kellie Krueger also chipped in 10 points.
