Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The women's soccer team started off its season with a strong effort in a loss against Buffalo.

Freshman Sophie Therien scored on a free kick with 6:13 left in the second half of overtime to seal the win for the Bulls.

But the Bearcats were encouraged by it's performance.

They outshot the Bulls 12-6 and played well defensively.

Coach Sarah McClellan says they didn't take advantage of some good scoring opportunities, but says the timing and rhythm was just off.

But she says it gives them something to build on when they take the field again on Sunday.

"I think if we come out and compete and we fine tune a couple of things from today, I think we'll look good for Sunday," she says.

The women will look to get one in the win column Sunday afternoon when it travels to take on Delaware State.

Game time is 1:00 pm.
