Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Just a few years ago there was no Binghamton University wrestling program.
Now the Bearcats rank as one of the top 25 teams in the nation.
That's according to the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.
Binghamton is perfect on the year, and coming off a 4-0 weekend when they bested Purdue University, Arizona State, Army, and Eastern Michigan.
Their ranking is the result of hard work by the coaches and harder work by the team.
Coach Pat Popolizio says, " You know, obviously there's been a little history with the program, coming back and where we are now. But I think the biggest key is, the athletes within the program. Finding the right fit for a program is extremely important, and we've done that. Now we're to the point that we have enough great guys in the program, and it feeds itself now."
Junior, and Walton grad cody Reed adds, "When I first got here three years ago binghamton was still a developing program. They had Josh Patterson, who was an All-American, and we've been steadily improving the last couple years. Justin Lister becoming an All-American, you know getting to the semi finals. We have the talent and it's just putting everything together."
A win Saturday at Princeton would set a record with their 7th straight victory to begin the year.
That is followed by the Penn State open on Sunday.
