ATHENS, GA (WBNG BINGHAMTON) Host Georgia (5-6) scored six runs in the first innings and went on to a 9-2 win over Binghamton (3-7) in the weekend finale Sunday afternoon from Foley Field. The SEC member Bulldogs completed the three-game sweep, though BU played their hosts even over the final six frames.

Georgia used a sequence of hit batter-walk-hit batter-walk to get things rolling in the first inning. The Bulldogs wound up scoring three runs in just one hit. They added three more runs in the second inning on a double, three hits and an error and tacked on a seventh run one inning later to build a 7-0 cushion. Georgia finished its scoring with two runs in the seventh before the Bearcats plated two in the eighth to break the shutout.

In that eighth frame, senior center fielder Bill Bereszniewicz hit a one-out single and went to third on a double by senior second baseman Daniel Nevares. Junior left fielder Jake Thomas then brought them both in with a double to right field.

The Bearcats were nearly even in hits (Georgia 10-9) but left eight stranded. The Bulldogs turned three double plays - and had nine twin-killings in the three-game series.

Thomas went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Nevares went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Nevares batted .583 in the series (7-for-12) and Thomas hit .417 (5-for-12).

Binghamton was without the services of two regular starters, Mike Urbanski and Mike Meleski, both of whom are nursing injuries.

The Bearcats return to action with a four-game weekend set at VMI beginning with a single game at 4 p.m. on Friday.
