(WBNG BINGHAMTON) The NFL is winding down, basketball is in full gear and lacrosse season is right around the corner. The B-U men begin play February 16, and they started practice this weekend.

This year the Bearcats will be looking for their first winning season since 2004.

With 9 seniors on the roster, maybe this veteran group is the one to turn the corner. Last year the team finished 5-9, but the Bearcats say that record is a little misleading.

"Last year we were right there; we were .500 most of the year and then we lost our last 3 games by a goal," said head coach Scott Nelson, in his third year coaching Binghamton.

"We were so close last year, so hopefully we're going to turn the corner. We think we've really got some good kids, we've got depth at every position for the first time. Hopefully, if we can stay injury-free and get some great goaltending and defense, we should be pretty good."

"We have to win the close ones," said redshirt senior Matt Springer. "We can't lose those one goal battles. That really flipped our season on the bad end, so that's one thing we're trying to build on this year: to bear down and win those one goal battles."

Binghamton kicks off the season February 16 on the road against Sacred Heart University.
