Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton men’s soccer program has announced its 2014 schedule and the Bearcats kickoff the season at Bucknell on August 29. The 18-game regular-season slate includes 10 home games, the most since Binghamton moved up to the NCAA Division I level in 2001.
“We have put together a great schedule,” head coach Paul Marco said. “We have more home games than road games. We play three Ivy League teams and two Patriot League opponents. Our non-conference schedule will help us be ready for the America East games later in the season.”
Binghamton opens up its home schedule on Labor Day (September 1) against Marist at 5 p.m. Other non-conference home games come against Army (Sept. 10), Cornell (Sept. 13), Lafayette (Sept. 20), Syracuse (Sept. 23) and Columbia (Oct. 22).
On the road, the Bearcats head to the Duquesne Tournament, where they will face the host Dukes (Sept. 5) and Niagara (Sept. 7). Other road games come against first-time opponent Princeton (Sept. 27) and Hofstra (Sept. 30).
America East Conference play opens up with a pair of home contests. Hartford comes to the Bearcats Sports Complex on Oct. 4 followed by New Hampshire on Oct. 11. Binghamton also hosts Stony Brook on Nov. 1.
This year’s Homecoming Game is scheduled for Oct. 18 against Vermont at 6 p.m. Since 2007, the Bearcats have averaged 2,183 fans to their annual Homecoming Game, including a pair of sellouts. This marks the fourth time in seven years that the Catamounts will be the opponent.
Conference road games come against defending America East champion UMBC on Oct. 15, UMass Lowell on Oct. 25 and Albany Nov. 25.
The America East Tournament starts with the quarterfinal round on Nov. 8. The semifinals follow on Nov. 12 and the finals are on Nov. 15.
