LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (WBNG BINGHAMTON) Myneshia McKenzie finished with 27 points and 20 rebounds, leading Rider (3-5) to a 66-63 overtime win over Binghamton (1-9) in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The game was the first of six straight road contests for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats had a 28-23 halftime lead and led for most of the second half. In the end however, they had no answer for McKenzie, who scored the most points and grabbed the most rebounds by an opposing player this season.

McKenzie’s performance overshadowed a career day by senior forward Julia Barac, who finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Vaneeshia Paulk added 13 points, reaching double figures for the third game in a row, and sophomore guard Kandace Newry chipped in 11 points.

Binghamton appeared to be in control of the game when it went on a 15-4 run in a span of 6:13 to take a 51-43 lead with 7:45 left in regulation. Barac keyed the run with six points.
Rider stormed back to tie the game at 52-52 with 3:58 left to go. Stephanie Mason capped the 9-1 run with a three-point field goal.

McKenzie sank a pair of free throws with 11.9 seconds left, giving Rider a 58-56 lead. Paulk, however, tied the score with three seconds to go, forcing the extra period.

In overtime, Binghamton could manage only three made free throws. At the other end of the court, Manon Pellet scored four points and Mikal Johnson sank a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to go.

Johnson added 16 points for Rider.

Binghamton heads to Siena next Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
