VESTAL (WBNG BINGHAMTON) Binghamton sophomore guard Jordan Reed has been selected as the America East co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Reed shares honors with Chris Pelcher of New Hampshire. It’s the first career Player of the Week honor for Reed.
Reed averaged 19.0 points and 14.0 rebounds in two games during the week. He pumped in 25 points with 14 rebounds in the Bearcats’ stirring 89-79 comeback win at Cornell on Wednesday. Reed then added his second-straight double-double Saturday in a loss to Navy. In addition to his points and board work, Reed averaged 3.0 steals in the two games and showed his much-improved free throw shooting by converting 18-of-20 from the line.
Reed ranks second in the America East in rebounding (12.5 rpg.) and is fourth in scoring (17.3 ppg.) early on. He also is third in three-point field goal percentage (.500), third in blocks (1.3/game) and fourth in steals (2.3/game).
It’s the second straight week that BU has produced a weekly award winner after freshman Nick Madray earned top rookie honors last week. Reed was the conference Rookie of the Week six times last season.
Binghamton hosts Radford at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
