Senior forward Viive Rebane and sophomore guard guard Jasbriell Swain each a game-high 17 points, powering Binghamton (4-2) to a 61-48 win over Cornell (2-5) in a women’s basketball non-conference game Wednesday night at Newman Arena. The victory was the second for the Bearcats this season in three road games.

Rebane, who also grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds and dished out four assists, has now recorded a double-double in three consecutive games. Swain, meanwhile, added seven rebounds. Senior guard Andrea Holmes chipped in 10 points.

“It’s good to get the win on the road,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “Viive has been our most consistent player so far this year and she continues to work hard every day in practice and in games.”

Rebane and Holmes each had four points during a 15-0 run in a span of 5;56 which gave the Bearcats a 25-10 lead with 6:02 left in the first half. The Big Red, however, trimmed the deficit to 31-21 at the half.

Cornell kept chipping away at the Binghamton lead and a basket by Clare Fitzpatrick pulled her team to within 37-34 with 10:45 left in regulation. From there, however, the Bearcats answered with a 13-3 run to up 50-37 with 5:26 left in the second half. Holmes capped the run by nailing back-to-back three pointers.

The lead remained in double figures the rest of the game.

Fitzpatrick led the Big Red with 14 points. Lyman Shelby added 11 points and Allyson DiMango grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
