Sophomore forward Luke Halberg netted his third goal of the season, helping Binghamton (4-8-2) to gain a 1-1 tie against Colgate (8-3-3) in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The draw is the second straight for the Bearcats, who broke a four-game scoreless drought in the process.
With the Bearcats down 1-0 in the 58th minute, junior midfielder Jake Keegan fed a pass to Halberg from midfield. The sophomore striker then broke in on Raider goalkeeper Chris Miller and lifted a shot into the net. Keegan now has a team-high five assists.
Earlier in the game, Colgate took the early lead when Patrick Letourneau fired home a rebound off an initial shot from Barrett Metzger in the 23rd minute. It was his first goal of the season and came off one of the Raiders’ eight corner kicks for the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Hayen finished with six saves while the tandem of Grant Reed and Miller stopped four shots for Colgate. The Raiders held a 12-9 advantage in shots for the match.
“Colgate is a very good team,” head coach Paul Marco said. “So we are pleased to get a draw against them heading into a big conference match at Stony Brook on Saturday. I thought Jake made a very pass to Luke who finished the play great.”
The match against the Seawolves starts Saturday at 7 p.m.
