Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University baseball team had to wait five years to get back to the NCAA Tournament. But after winning the America East Title yesterday, the wait to hear its tourney fate was much shorter. The Bearcats are headed to the N.C. State regional in Raleigh, NC.
Just after noon on Monday, BU heard its fate on the Selection Show. The Bearcats will be heading to Tobacco Road for its first NCAA's since 2009.
Other than BU and N.C. State, Ole Miss from the SEC and CAA Tournament champion William & Mary are both also in the bracket for the double-elimination round of the tournament. A challenge the Bearcats are ready to tackle.
"We knew anyone that we were going to face in the opening round would be a big challenge and N.C. State certainly has a quality program," said coach Tim Sinicki. "They have for years so we're up for whatever the NCAA committee decided and where they wanted to send us. We're ready for a challenge and we feel like we'll go down and represent the University well."
"Everybody is real pumped. We're ready to get on the road," said junior Brian Ruby. "I heard a lot of from the guys in there, they just want to practice tomorrow, hop on a plane, get down there, and see what they have to offer for us down there."
Binghamton and N.C. State face off on Friday at 7 p.m. in Raleigh.
The Wolfpack will be the first team from the ACC the Bearcats have faced since losing to Virginia Tech during the 2008 Regular season.
