Apalachin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Classes begin at Binghamton University on Tuesday, signaling the start of a new school year. It's a year the BU men's basketball program hopes will come with another step in the right direction.

In all, the Bearcats have 12 freshman or sophomores on the roster, a group without much experience, but they have some talent.

On Thursday at the Jim "Mudcat" Grant golf tournament, coach Tommy Dempsey spoke about what excites him the most about this new group of players.

"The character, the character of the kids, their work ethic," said Dempsey. "We've recruited kids from very good high school programs and prep school programs, so all the kids coming in have won before. They're very driven, they're very motivated to help us turn this program around. They came here to be a part of something special, and it's something that we use every day to motivate them."

Despite the youth, all the players have been at BU at some point this summer. Dempsey said that will help come preseason time.
