Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University athletics department honors the programs first baseball player to make it to the major leagues.

Left hander Scott Diamond was presented a framed jersey during halftime of Saturday night's men's basketball game against Army.

Diamond became the first Bearcat to play in the major leagues earlier this season when he started the back end of a double header for the Minnesota Twins.

"It's exciting to be the pioneer but at the same time I know there's going to be future guys because this program is as strong as it's ever been and it only continues to get stronger and I think having the new facility and new ID and everything, I think it's really going to take this program forward. I'm really excited," says Diamond.

Diamond went 1 and 5 in 7 starts last season.

He struck out 19 in 39 innings of work.

Diamond says he's been working out this off-season and hopes to land a spot in the Twins starting rotation next season.
