Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Eyes focused on Radio City Music Hall once again Friday night as the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft took place. Just over 180 miles away, back in Johnson City, DaQuan Jones is still waiting for the call to come.
Jones sat with family and friends to watch the draft on Friday night, when he was expected to be taken. However, through 100 picks, the name "DaQuan Jones" has yet to be announced.
Now, Jones has to wait until Saturday for the rest of the picks to be made.
From the time he suited up as a Johnson City Wildcat, Jones thought there was a chance of playing in the NFL. Those talents allowed him to sign to play at Penn State where that NFL dream started to look more like a reality.
Early on in his career, it still seemed like a long shot though.
Last season he took a monster step forward, and now he waits to here his name tonight somewhere in the second or third rounds.
WBNG caught up with Jones before Friday's rounds, to see how he's feeling before what could be a life-changing moment.
"I could not go to bed last night. I'm up until 3:30 in the morning just like, I don't know if I can wait," said Jones. "I had my friend from California texting me, and I said, I don't know if I can wait another 18 hours."
While it was a difficult night on Friday for DaQuan, when that call does eventually come, it's be a moment he and his family won't forget.
"I think it's going to be very emotional. I think it's going to have a lot of people crying. It's just going to be relief," said Jones. "You know finally the opportunity to make it out of the area and create a better life for me and my family. It's going to be something that we really need, so I'm really looking forward to it."
He really isn't sure where he'll fall, but a couple of potential landing spots are still San Diego and Minnesota. Jones made extra visits to meet with both of those teams over the last few months.
