Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University women are coming off a tough home loss to Hartford Saturday afternoon.

But one of the bright spots may be the play of Elmira Notre Dame graduate Mallory Lawes.

Lawes is in her first season with the Bearcats, after sitting out all of last season because of transfer rules.

She started her career at Loyola Maryland.

This season, the junior has played in 17 games, starting 2.

"I try to focus more on defense so my offense comes from that so as far as my role, I think I have scoring abilities and kind of like to jolt the offense or jolt the defense kind of like a spark. I kind of feed off my own energy," says Lawes.

"Mallory's been great. She's been a positive impact with our team. She comes in and has been a spark for us. The two games she started I thought she did a nice job for us...ya know, her energy and aggressiveness," says head coach Nicole Scholl.

The Bearcats are back in action on Thursday night when they host UMBC at 7:00 pm in the Events Center.
