Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In just about a week, Syracuse University will officially be a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the entry date being July 1.

When throwing out the first pitch at Saturday's Binghamton Mets game, former Orange basketball star Lawrence Moten gave his thoughts on the move.

Despite being the all-time leading scorer in Big East Conference history, Moten believes the change in affiliation can be a good thing.

"It was tough at first, just knowing that we're losing a lot of the tradition. Being as though you can't play against Georgetown, Villanova and St. Johns and Uconn and those teams like that," said Moten. "But I tell people all the time, sometimes change is good. Can you imagine Syracuse and Duke in the Carrier Dome, can you imagine Syracuse and North Carolina? And we're going to get to play our old foe from the Big East, Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech."

Fans won't have to wait long to see what that's like. Both North Carolina and Duke will be coming to the Carrier Dome this winter.

Dates for those games have not been released yet.
