They say history often repeats itself.

And if that's the case, there should be a lot of optimism for the BU women's soccer team.

The ladies opened the conference season with a 1-0 win at home over Maine, thanks to Sarah Furminger's goal with about 10 minutes remaining.

It's first win in the conference opener for the Bearcats in the last 7 years.

And gives the team 6 straight conference wins dating back to last October.

Last season, the team used a strong American East season to make a run all the way to the title game.

The team went 2 and 7 to start the season.

"We would have liked our non-conference season to go a little bit better but we didn't get the bounces we needed and now we're in a new season. Its the conference season. Maine is a very good team. We beat a very good team," says head coach Sarah McClellan.

"We really are hoping to use this win to propel us to a great conference season. Last year we did the same thing. We really pushed to do well in conference, push us up the rankings and we're trying to force the freshman to understand, this is it. This is the important games and this is whats going to matter," says Taylor Kucharski.

The Bearcats are back in action Thursday night when it travels to America East foe Hartford.
