Greensboro, NC (WBNG Binghamton) Entering its inaugural football season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Syracuse was picked to finish second-to-last in the Atlantic Division on Monday.
The poll taken of the media during the ACC Football Kickoff places the Orange sixth in its division, above only Boston College.
However, SU's new head coach Scott Shafer has much loftier expectations for this year's team.
"We want our fans to be able to look out on the field and say that's a physical team that plays as hard as they can, for as long as they can and really don't worry about anything but playing one play at a time," said Shafer. "That's what we want to be. I know it sounds simple, but that's the truth. We want to be an outfit that is fun to watch because we're physical."
Shafer and the Orange open up training camp in a few weeks in Syracuse. Preseason camp will once again include a trip to Fort Drum, where the team will train on the base for the second straight season.
