Sophomore forward Sherae Swinson, junior guard Jasbriell Swain and freshman forward Morgan Murphy have each earned all-conference honors from the America East for the 2012-13 season. Swinson was named third-team all-conference, Swain was chosen to the all-defensive team and Murphy was selected to the all-rookie squad.

“We are happy for our three award winners,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “We have been playing well going into the (America East) Tournament, with two wins in our last three games so this tops off the end of the regular season for us.”

Swinson stepped into a starting role this season and led the squad with 10.2 points per game. She was also third in the conference with 1.1 blocks per contest. During the season, Swinson reached double figures in scoring 15 times and scored at least 20 points twice. Her career high of 25 points came against Vermont on Jan. 16.

This marks the first time in her career that Swinson has earned an all-conference honor.

Swain, who was named the America East Rookie of the Year two seasons ago, ranked second in the conference with 8.4 rebounds per game and was third with 2.6 steals per contest. In addition, Swain finished second on the Bearcats with 8.3 points per contest. Swain grabbed a rebounds three times during the season and poured in a career-best 26 points against Niagara back on Dec. 10.

Swain is the second Binghamton player to be named to the All-Defensive Team since it was established in 2006. Jen Haubrich was selected that year.

Despite missing nine games with an injury, Murphy finished the regular season with 7.1 points per game. She was named the America East Rookie of the Week back on Nov. 12 and reached double figures in scoring six times. Her career high of 16 points came against UNLV on Dec. 12. Murphy also grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Arizona State on Dec. 1.

Murphy is the third Binghamton player in the past five years to earn All-Rookie honors. She joins Swain and Andrea Holmes (2009).

Binghamton (6-23) is the No. 7 seed heading into the 2013 America East Tournament. The Bearcats square off against second-seeded Hartford on Friday at noon in the quarterfinal round at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.
