Stony Brook, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Sophomore catcher Taylor Chaffee led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run, leading Binghamton (22-24) to a 2-1 win over UMBC (31-22) in an America East Softball Tournament elimination game on Friday afternoon at University Field. With the win, the Bearcats move on to play Albany on Saturday at noon.

Chaffee, who now has a team-high 11 home runs this season, drilled a 0-1 pitch over the centerfield wall.

The Bearcats were leading 1-0 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. UMBC, however, tied the game on a RBI double by Kaelin Jackson.

Up until the seventh inning, the only run of the game came courtesy of a leadoff home run by sophomore first baseman Lisa Cadogan. It was her eighth home run of the season.

Senior pitcher Demi Laney scattered one run on four hits and struck out nine batters to improve to 14-11. The loss was tagged to Jessica Holte, who is now 18-11.
