    Stony Brook, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton softball team won its first-ever America East Conference championship on Saturday, earning the Bearcats the accompanying automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Needing a pair of wins over No. 1 Stony Brook, the Bearcats reeled off 5-2 and 9-3 victories to reach the national tournament for the first time in the school's Division I tenure.

    Stony Brook, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford drilled a three-run double while junior outfielder Lisa Cadogan and freshman designated hitter Tia Smith each drove in a pair of runs, poweing Binghamton (22-19) to a 8-0 win over Maine (22-22) in an America East Tournament elimination game on Friday afternoon at University Field.

    Stony Brook, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh and freshman designated hitter Tia Smith each homered, leading Binghamton (21-18) to a 5-3 win over Albany (30-17) in an America East Softball Tournament first-round game on Thursday afternoon at University Field.

  • Home NCAA tournament game 'big deal' for Cornell

    Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It has been since 2011 since Cornell has hosted a home NCAA tournament game in Ithaca. That four-year drought ends Saturday though as the eighth-seeded Big Red hosts Albany in the opening round.

    Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Senior right fielder Jake Thomas ripped a two-run double to the wall with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Binghamton a 6-5 comeback win over visiting Siena Tuesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

  • BU softball team rolling into conference tournament

    Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University softball team is on a roll. The Bearcats have won seven of their last nine entering the America East tournament this week. Part of that may have to do with the weather.

  • Cortland wins fifth straight SUNYAC title

    Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tournament MVP Mark DeMilio (Valhalla) went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two RBI and three runs scored as Cortland defeated Oswego, 10-3, in the SUNYAC Baseball Tournament Championship Game. Oswego forced a winner-take-all title game earlier in the day with a 3-1 win that snapped Cortland's 17-game winning streak.

  • UMBC sweeps away Bearcats, 9-7

    Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Visiting UMBC scored runs in six of the last seven innings to hold off Binghamton 9-7 Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Retrievers (25-16, 10-8 AE) built a 7-0 lead and then hung on in the final three innings as a late BU rally came oh-so-close.

  • UMBC sweeps doubleheader with Bearcats

    Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton left 22 runners stranded in 16 innings of baseball and suffered a costly doubleheader sweep at the hands of UMBC Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The visiting Retrievers won 3-1 and 6-3, strengthening their postseason position and dropping BU into fifth position in the standings.
