Newark Valley, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Last year, coaches said the Newark Valley football team was young.
And they still made it to the sectional playoffs.
This year, coaches say the team is still young, but has plenty of experience.
The Cardinals return some running backs and a majority of it's offensive line.
They are breaking in a new quarterback this season, Mason Schutz.
The team hopes to have a balanced attack this season.
And they are counting on the big boys up front to help them do that.
"The experienced line is great. It's really really important having some younger kids in the backfield. Having some older guys up front, knowing what the responsibilities are makes it huge," says head coach Jack Short.
"Our line's been playing together since we were little kids, like 8th grade or 7th graders so we're all pretty experienced and we know how each other work, work pretty good together," says senior lineman Travis Phillips.
The Cardinals open their season Saturday at home, when they host Tioga.
