(WBNG Binghamton)
For the second straight season, a section 4 football team will call it quits on their season, citing a lack of players.
Today Thomas Edison high school in Elmira Heights officially announced their football year is over.
Last week in a loss to Spencer Van Etten the spartans were down to just 12 healthy players and the game was forfeited in the 3rd quarter.
16 are needed for a team to compete.
This week only 11 showed up for practice, leading to the decision to call off the rest of the season.
This afternoon I spoke with the Chairman of section 4 football, Binghamton high school athletic director David Garbarino.
He explained that because Edison hasn't played a league game yet, that all those teams will be eligible to try and find opponents for those weeks.
The games won't count for or against their standings, as it pertains to making the playoffs, but teams will be able to try and find a game to avoid a bye week.
