Improbable comeback propels Spartans to Section IV Title

Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Down 7-0 heading into their final at bat, the player's in the Maine-Endwell dugout put together one of the most improbable comebacks in Section IV history. The Spartans scored nine in the seventh, two more in the eighth and held on to beat Vestal 11-9 Thursday for the Section IV Class A Championship.

Prior to the title game Vestal, ranked third in New York State in Class A, had beaten M-E twice. However, with their backs against the wall the Spartans completed the comeback and held on 11-9 in eight innings.

Maine-Endwell now heads back to the state tournament to play the winner from Section 1 on Monday.

Tigers hold off Horseheads
Union-Endicott scored six runs in the first, and that helped hold off a late rally by Horseheads to win the Section IV Class AA Crown. The Tigers beat the Blue Raiders 8-6 Thursday at Binghamton University to move onto the state playoffs.

In the Class B title game, defending state champion Oneonta blasted a solo home run in the first, but Waverly answered. The Wolverines tacked on a few in the third and more in the fourth and held off the Yellow Jackets 6-4.

Seton earns spot in finals
Seton rallied to score four late runs and beat Edison 8-4 at Broome Community College on Thursday.

The Saints now face Lansing for the Section IV Class C Championship 4:30 Friday at BCC.
