Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City clinched it's first division title in 11 years thanks to a 7 point win over Owego.
And one of the biggest contributions came from someone playing in their first game on varsity.
Sophomore Anthony Johns ran for 211 yards on 28 carries and scored 2 touchdowns in the 28-21 win.
Johns had spent the first part of the year on the junior varsity team, but was called up earlier in the week.
While he had a fantastic game, both he and the coaches gave the credit to the offensive line.
"They started holding their blocks a little bit better, allowing me to get out of the backfield and get some yards," says Johns.
"Our guys needed to get a little bit tougher up front. Owego comes out and hits ya and plays so physical and well coached team. We got a couple breaks, broke a couple through the line and our lineman played better in the second half than they did in the first," says head coach Fred Deinhardt.
Johnson City hosts Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
That game will be played at Binghamton's Alumni Stadium.
