Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's a natural progression, two years ago Maine-Endwell was the hunter when the Spartans knocked off Aquinas in the state semifinals, but a couple of state titles and 36 straight wins later M-E is surely now the hunted.
Never was that more clear than during last week's quarterfinal thriller when M-E held off Cazenovia for a one-point win.
Now, the Spartans are back in the state semis for a third straight season, this time facing Depew. But with the 36 straight wins and state-title streak on the line, there's a lot for these players to play for.
"The number and how many they've been. We've really not talked about that, thought about that, I just think it's just not wanting to lose more than trying to win to preserve something," said Spartans defensive coordinator Gary Crooks. "I think these kids are just competitive in that nature. They just want to win, they don't like losing."
M-E and Depew are set for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday.
