(WBNG Binghamton) The Maine-Endwell Spartans are coming off one of the most dramatic endings to a sectional championship you've ever seen.
The Spartans overcame an 8 run deficit in the 7th inning, and then won when sophomore catcher Adam Gallagher tagged two Vestal runners at the plate to end the game in extra innings.
That game was a microcosm of the entire season for the Spartans who have played through both good and bad.
"I mean we're playing good baseball right now. We're hot right now. We've got what, like 6 in a row right now. We like to call ourselves the streakers. We lost 7 in a row, then won 6 in a row...it's awesome. It's great to be around," says sophomore catcher Adam Gallagher.
The Spartans will look to continue their wave of momentum Monday afternoon when they take on Section 1 winner John Jay at Union-Endicott at 4.
The Spartans baseball team wasn't the only team to rally to win a sectional title.
The Maine-Endwell softball team also overcame a deficit in the 7th inning to capture the Class A title.
The Spartans softball team scored 3 runs in their final at bat to shock Vestal 5-4.
Trailing 3-2 heading into their final at at, the Spartans strung together a series of hits, culminating in freshman Allison Missavage's 2 run single into right center field.
It was her 2nd and 3rd RBI of the game.
Coach Matt Raleigh says his team has lived by the comeback all season.
And he says playing in a tough softball conference like Section 4 has prepared his girls for a run through the state playoffs.
"Obviously section 4 is very respected. With that said, you come out of here, I like our chances. I like our opportunity ahead of us. The girls have fought all year round. I think we go up against section 9. I know nothing about them. They know nothing about us. It'll be just going down and executing what we've been doing all year round," Raleigh says.
The Spartans will take on Section 9 winner Wallkill at 3:30 at Minisink Valley.
