Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) With a three-year starter at quarterback, and plenty of returning skill position players, Vestal is poised for a better 2013 season.

Last year the Golden Bears finished 5-5 with a loss in the Section IV finals to rival Union-Endicott. Despite losing 30 seniors from a year ago, a lot of key players return for Vestal.

This season, senior Nick Wegmann gets under center for his third straight year, with senior tight end Pat Carlin and junior wide receiver Justin Dennis also returning for the Vestal offense.

Those returning weapons are one of the reasons the coaching staff believes Wegmann can take another big step forward at quarterback.

"He's a three sport athlete and he's confident now in his senior year," said coach Tank Anderson. "He's someone we know we can go to and right now we put a little bit more on him because he is a senior, to make a little bit more reads and get the ball distributed properly. Because we have a lot of good weapons."

"I think I improved a lot from my sophomore year to my junior year, and I want to improve again," said Wegmann. "But it's all about, you know we want to win. What I can do to win."

Vestal opens up the season with a visit from Norwich.
