Binghamton (WBNG BINGHAMTON) Hoosic Valley scored two runs in the third inning despite only registering one hit, and the Seton Catholic bats remained silent all afternoon, as the Saints fell, 2-0, in the Class C semifinal.
Seton senior Michael Korchak pitched a complete game, but an offense that struggled at points during the season came up with no answers.
"We've lived with close games all season long," said head coach Jim Miller. "The worst we got beat was about 5-2. Everything else was one run and today was two runs. Nobody blew us out. This year we maximized our talent, to a degree."
"We've been working hard all year for this day to compete on the last day of the season," Korchak said. "We didn't catch too many breaks today but, you know, we came out here and played as hard as we could and didn't pull it off."
The Saints won the Class C title in 2013.
In the Class D softball semifinals, Deposit took a 5-1 lead into the sixth inning against Fort Ann, but could not hold it.
Fort Ann scored six times over the final two innings, ultimately winning 7-5.
