Greene, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Sidney Girls Field Hockey team is making it's first trip to the state playoffs, thanks to an upset of perennial powerhouse Marathon in the Class C title game.

Marathon got on the board first in the second half thanks to a goal by Tatum Knapp.

But 6th seeded Sidney battled back, getting two goals from Meridith Delello in a 2 minute span to top the number one seed 2-1.

The Warriors beat the 3 seed, the 2 seed and the top seed to capture the Class C title.

"We've been working 5, 6 years to get to the point where we were going to be competitive and where we were going to be a team to be reckoned with so its fitting to be the Cinderella team and beating all these high seeds as a low seed and taking it...these girls deserve it," says head coach Christine Smith.

Sidney will take it's first step toward a state title next Saturday night at 5:00 pm when it hosts the winner of Section 2 in the state regionals.
