Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some of the best high school boys basketball players in the state will be in Johnson City this weekend, and the same goes for some of the best girl basketball stars in New York.
The B-C-A-N-Y Summer Hoops fest kicks off for the girls on Friday as well at the Johnson City schools.
It's a tournament that has in the past seen players like UConn's Brianna Stewart playing against the best the Southern Tier has to offer.
The tournament is a great chance for these girls to continue to hone their skills.
"You get exposed to some of the best competition you could possibly get a hold of, especially this time of the summer," said coach Joe Reynolds. "Late in the summer when most athletes are gearing up for fall sports, they get another chance, one last chance really, to play against some great competition."
"This is much faster paced game, and you're playing up with your competition," said Harpursville senior Shelby Medovich. "There's no lower competition, everything is pretty even, just to get you ready for the season."
The Southern Tier girls squad plays their first two games on Friday night. The play at 4 p.m. and then again at 7 p.m.
