Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The class of Class B in New York State has been Maine-Endwell for the past two season. Since dropping down from Class A two years ago, the Spartans have yet to lose a game, including winning last year's state title.
Now, M-E is looking to cap another perfect season. The Spartans match-up with a familiar foe this weekend in the state quarterfinal round.
M-E takes on the state's third ranked team, Cazenovia. That's the same team the Spartans beat 50-14 in this round last season.
That is one of 35 straight wins for Maine-Endwell, a streak that is currently the longest active one in the state. It's something the team is driven to not see end.
"As much as we try not to, it has to, and I think it does which is a good thing," said M-E coach Matt Gallagher. "At the same time they don't always look at it, they don't ride that coattail there, they want to push for more. I think that fact that now they know they have to win the next three. It's not like they have a chance of losing one and still coming back and reaching their goal with is to win the state title this year."
Maine-Endwell and Cazenovia match up at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Ty Cobb Stadium. Both teams are a perfect 10-0 this season.
