The theme of week 1 of the high school football season was big offense
13 teams scored 30 points or more in their opener, and a few of those pair up in week #2.
We'll start with Walton and Greene, each a sectional finalist a season ago.
Tomorrow they meet in Greene and the home standing Trojans know it will be a battle up front.
" We have to play a better offensive game. We've seen their defense a little on film and they're pretty rugged and they get to the ball quick, so we're just going to work this week really hard, get our line going and hopefully go hard against them."
" They come out and hit you defensively and offensively. They're going to grind it out and march it right down the field. We have to do a better job reading our keys defensively and offensively we have to come out ready to hit and execute."
This game isn't as simple as big offense against big defense.
The x factor may be special teams.
Both teams have speed returning the ball on kicks, but Greene looked especially explosive, returning 2 kicks for touchdowns and setting up another score with a 3rd big return.
Walton coach Jim Hoover says, " Greene does a lot of good things. They can run the ball, they play great defense and they must work like heck on their specialty teams, because every specialty team they have does a great job. It's just a matter of spending more time on our specialty teams this week. It's a short week, we're not used to that. We just have to work on it, show them the films and how they block those walls and stuff."
Walton scored 42 in their opener, but needed a second half rally to top Oxford, who scored 28.
Greene cruised past Sus. Valley in their opener.
