Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Division 3 in Section IV Class B football is really wide open, and there's one team in there hoping to build on some momentum they gained towards the end of last season. That would be the Susquehanna Valley Sabers, who have a whole lot of talent returning.
SV returns all but two starters from a year ago, and they feel confident after the type of year they had last season.
Susquehanna Valley lost tight games against Johnson City, Corning, Owego and Norwich down the stretch last year. That's experience the Sabers are looking to call on this season.
"For the younger kids coming up from JV, it's a bunch of teachers on the field that know the system and know the routines and know everything that's going on," said coach Michael Ford, in his second year with SV. "They've been in the weight room as leaders since January, as a kind of role model for the younger kids to look up to. They know the standard of Saber football that we're looking to achieve here."
"It gives us a lot of confidence when we've got a lot of starters because we've got already a big bond, team bond coming into this season," said senior Jared Kachmar. "We really know how to work well with each other."
The Sabers take on defending Class AA champs Elmira at home Week 1.
