Newark, NJ (WBNG Binghamton) With professional MMA fights still banned in New York, the UFC is forced to move fights like the one this evening in New Jersey, which could be in Madison Square Garden, across the river to the Prudential Center.
Action News headed out to Newark New Jersey to cover the fight.
In Binghamton, the Power of One MMA is helping put on its own amateur MMA fights at the Broome County Arena at the same time.
Events like Friday's are ones that the fight organizers believe should help the cause of legalizing the sport across New York.
" We expect to help legitimize the sport. We really are professional in how we conduct things, obviously doing things at the Broome County Arena. So we're going big. We bring in some great fighters. We have fighters coming in from Venezuela, and Canada and other places across the country. So we're hoping that the state looks at it," said Jason Porter of the Power of MMA.
As for Jon Jones, there's nothing he can do but just continue to defend his title, so that he could have a title fight in New York sometime in the near future.
