Dwayne Jackson says, " I think they did a great job of recruiting because we have some great talents here now, and I think as a team we might be better off. If you don't want to be here you know we need guys that can be here 100% So I think as a team we're going to be just fine. "
After the year ended with a loss in their first game of the America East tournament, BU saw it's best players leave via graduation and transfer, a former player become involved in an international assault investigation, and a new recruiting class get dissected. Now it's time for basketball.
Transfer Theo Davis says, " I'm real anxious...Like a kid before Christmas day on Christmas eve, waiting to get on the court. I sat out the spring semester, so it's not a big deal. It's more anxiousness than anything. "
There is intrigue to this year's newcomers. It begins with Emmanuel "Tiki" Mayben, a former Syracuse recruit, who's path to Binghamton includes stops at UMASS and Hudson Valley Community College.
Mayben says," As far as community wise and academically and school and class and professors, I feel like I'm already settled in. I'm getting antsy now because I want to get on the court, and not necessarily show people what I can do but show the community and the program what I bring to the table. "
Tiki is not alone. A total of 6 players will be in uniform this season after playing for different colleges.
There is no questioning their collective talent. The hard part will be bringing that talent together for a season that begins exactly one month from today.
Coach Kevin Broadus says, " That's why I'm here and the coaches are here, and the administrators are here. To coach these young athletes and make them better, not just basketball players but (people). We're very excited and optimistic as well."
