The last time Marathon won a state title in field hockey, it was their third in a row.
Last year they won their second straight, so it's only natural to assume the rule of 3 means they'll do it again in 2008.
Coach Karen Funk says, " It would be nice, but you have to play one game at a time."
Senior Tessa Knapp says, " We're hoping to maybe break that. As I graduate, and the other girls continue on I'm hoping they can break that little tradition that was going on and get up to 4,5,6 and keep going. We'll see."
The Marathon team is certainly talented, but it takes more to win a state title
" I told them since day 1 we're the ones with a target on our back. Everyone wants to know off the top team. Even if it's a team that's won 3 games, if they beat Marathon that's going to be the ultimate for that season. You have to play every team like it's the most important game you're going to play."
