"When our line is playing like that, and we are running the ball like that, it's tough to even think about throwing. We are just gaining so many yards with our four backs."
Truth is, on occasion, albeit very rare occasion, they do pass. For the first time in four weeks they completed a forward pass this past week against Walton, which means for the second time all year Ricky Bronson improved his quarterback rating with a touchdown pass.
Bronson says, "Usually our passing is only done in pregame. Today, we threw the ball once, but it was good. It was nice to throw a ball for a change.
coach Dave Hogan says, "Quite a rating isn't it? One for one for however many yards that went for and a touchdown. That's got to be a pretty high rating."
That system works only when you can dominate at the line of scrimmage, which of course is exactly what the Blue Devils are able to do.
Jordan Barnett says, "Our linemen did great, a back can make a cut. But if the lime and don't do a good job and we're going nowhere. So I have to give the credit to my linemen."
After alternating series to start the year. It's Bronson was taken over as the number one quarterback. Coach Dave Hogan says DJ Smith is his quarterback on defense, leading another dominating unit. He also plays split end on offense, and as a former quarterback, he knows exactly what that means.
"If you're going to play end on our team, you better know how to block."
