Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
They graduated 15 seniors, including the class "AA" state player of the year.
Their coach of 10 years stepped down, and in his place comes a coach in her first year.
So if you were expecting the U-E girls soccer team to fall apart, you wouldn't be alone.
But you would be surprised.
We take a look at how the team is coming together in this week's action sports spotlight.
" It's been really frustrating, but everybody knew it was going to be hard, so everybody just worked that much harder because we want to live up to expectations."
That bar has been set very high. A year ago the Tigers not only won every game in the regular season, they won it by shutout.
This season they allowed a goal in their first game, and midway through their schedule, they lost at Corning.
Senior sweeper Mallory Foran says, " During the game I'm not sure what happened, but we lost our focus, so we lost. But now we're trying to keep our focus during the games and practice. "
New coach Andrea Mastro says, " Something that we can build on and grow with together. They've done a really nice job of keeping their head in the game and we realized that there may be goals scored, and that's how it goes. As long as you can keep in the game and stay with it, and they've showed that. They've done a nice job."
They still expect to win, they just know it will be in a different way.
And they hope to keep winning straight through the end of October.
Leading scorer Abby Renfro says, " A win is a win for us now. We don't care how many goals the other team scores now. If we make it to sectionals, and past sectionals that will be a success."
" Yeah we are looking to make it to the finals this year. It doesn't matter if we win, as long as we make it there and prove ourselves there."
