Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Johnson City junior Morgan Cluck seems to have put together academics and athletics with ease. She's an high honor roll student with grades in the high 90's. She's a member of the cross country, and indoor and outdoor track teams, and she's the star of this year's school musical. Cluck insists that while she is involved in many things, academics is the most important.
"That's my first priority," said Cluck. "Running and music, I love them both so much that I couldn't think of not doing one so I find that motivation to excel and be the best I can at everything I do."
Cluck's coach says she's a one of a kind student athlete, and one any coach would dream of having on their team.
"Kids like Morgan are hard to come by," said Eric Putman, the JC track coach. "One, she's involved in anything you can imagine. It's not just athletics, it's academics and the music department as well. If you could clone her, it would be the greatest thing you could do for any sport."
Cluck joked that she started running because she was un-coordinated and couldn't do anything else. She says when she was on the volleyball team for one season, her favorite part was the running drills at the beginning of practice. Now, she's one of the leaders of the track team, running the 400 and 800 meter races.
"People are like how do you love it so much, why do you run?" said Cluck. "How can you go on a 10 mile run? To me, it just clears my mind. It, I don't know, I love it so much."
Cluck loves to perform, whether its on stage or on the track. A hero in the classroom, on the stage and the track, that's why Morgan Cluck is this week's Academic All-Star.
