Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) For J-C senior Zach Nefaris, his learning style is certainly similar to how he plays the game of lacrosse. He's defender that isn't shy of handling the ball or scoring a goal.

"Zach brings leadership, dedication and commitment," said Bo Flynn, JC's head coach. "He's been playing lacrosse his whole life and he gets the other guys going. Like I said, he's just a leader out there."

Not only is he one of the best defenders for the Wildcats, but he also plays offense for JC in man-up opportunities. That shows his willingness to do whatever the team needs to win, and he has an impressive understanding of the game.

"My game is more mental and physical put together," said Nefaris. "I just focus on the little things to critique and make myself a better player and become who I am now."

The combination of those mental and physical talents is something Nefaris will certainly need in the coming years, but they won't be used to play lacrosse...

"I had a lot of college's looking at me for lacrosse and academics. But I wasn't really sure if college was my thing. I wanted to be in law enforcement and I looked into the Coast Guard and it really caught my eye."

He believes his hard word and dedication will help him be successful in the Coast Guard. A place where his selflessness and team-first attitude can be showcased out of the classroom and off the lacrosse field.

"Well, that's just Zach, like I said, dedicated, committed and I know he'll do good things in the Coast Guard."

That is why Zach Nefaris is this week's Academic All-Star.
